Background:
Hurworth School became a county secondary (11-16) co-educational school on 1st September 1974. The school is located in the beautiful village of Hurworth on Tees, three miles south of Darlington on the border between Durham and North Yorkshire. Its aim to provide children with an education, which will develop their individual capabilities to the highest level. Religious education and assemblies are based broadly upon Christian and humanitarian principles without affiliation to any particular denomination. The aims of the department are to contribute to the overall education of young people by helping them to lead full and valuable lives through engaging in purposeful physical activities. Specific aims are to develop physical competence and promote physical development, to teach through experience the value and benefits of participation in school and throughout adult life. To meet these aims, a wide range of extra-curricular activities has been established. Pupils have been offered extensive club participation during lunchtimes and after-school. The schools aims to give equal access to a broad and balanced music curriculum. All pupils have the opportunity to compose, perform and listen to a variety of music including classical, jazz, rock and popular. The school aims to provide children with an education which will develop their individual capabilities to the highest level.
