Background:
Whinstone Primary School is a county controlled primary school for children between the ages of four and 11. The school is situated in the dormitory town of Ingleby Barwick on the south side of Stockton-on-Tees. It was opened in September 1988. A second phase of building was completed in February 1991 increasing the capacity to 466. Additional building and mobile classroom accommodation has further increased the capacity of the building. The current number on role is 560. There is also a Nursery class that offers 39 children morning places and another 39 in the afternoon. French is thought for nursery year 6.Children are offered a range of after school activities at different times of year. Such activities include guitar tuition, football, netball, hockey, webclub, keyboard, choir, art, and gardening. The school has won The Healthy School Gold Award. Whinstone is a happy school. Through providing an enriched curriculum in an inspirational and stimulating environment, the school has challenged to realise the individual potential. Valuing the role in the community the school equips the children with skills and attitudes to enable them to widen their life choices in an ever-changing world.
