Background:
Collierley Primary was founded in about 1878 as the Village Board School. Since then the building has received numerous additions but has also retained many of its original features. It is situated in the centre of Dipton in north-west Durham, originally a coal-mining area, and is the village's 'main focal point'. The 'lovely' grounds contain 'large' playing areas, a field and a football pitch, backing onto fields and countryside. A variety of extra-curricular activities includes football, drama, and computing. Coaching has been provided by Newcastle United and Sunderland Football Clubs. 'Good links' with the community are supported by the 'very successful' parents and friends group.
