Opened in 1898; building has since undergone many changes; Victorian interior replaced by four large classrooms, main hall, library and dining area; double-glazed windows, closed-circuit television and intercom-controlled entry; carpets throughout; interactive whiteboards and broadband internet access. Sporting tradition; particularly successful in district football, cross-country, athletics, netball and swimming competitions; also basketball and badminton. Pupil council, which designed award-winning garden. Children take part in Operation Christmas Child (the shoebox appeal) and support St Cuthbert's Care, NSPCC and the Poppy Appeal. Health School Award; Basic Skills Quality Mark (2003); DfES achievement award (2003). Ethos: 'When you enter the school, you will notice the tidiness and sense of organisation.
