Background:

Prior's Mill was formed in 1990 from the amalgamation of Northfield Infant and Billingham Church of England Junior schools. The school's name is inspired by a nearby mill, which was previously owned by the prior of Durham. Situated in a 'pleasant residential area', the school grounds are large and include 'pleasant gardens'. Pupils are accommodated in three main buildings and a double mobile classroom. The school is well resourced for information and communication technology (ICT) and has a range of specialist equipment. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, table tennis, chess, school magazine, choir, school band, recorders and productions. Due to its participation in the Comenius project, Prior's Mill has partner schools in the Czech Republic, Italy, Lithuania, Germany and Portugal. Money is raised throughout the year for the local hospice, in addition to other projects, such as the Salvation Army and Romanian appeals. 'Strong' community links have been developed through both the local church and the school partnership association. Pupils with special educational needs (SEN) receive individual support for a number of hours a week and also attend targeted support classes.
