Background:

Dene is a community comprehensive secondary school that caters for pupils aged 11 to 16. It is situated in the town of Peterlee in County Durham. It is a DfES designated Specialist Technology College and was the first school in Peterlee to receive this accolade. The school provides an excellent range of facilities and resources. These include specialist classroom areas, a staffed study centre, interactive whiteboards, fast access to the internet via broadband, fully equipped science laboratories and good sporting provision. The school offers a comprehensive enrichment programme that includes a variety of extra-curricular activities such as theatre visits, musical events, exchange visits to France and Germany, field trips and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. It also organises numerous clubs to suit all interests including IT, contemporary dance, drama, art, music, sport, science, chess and landscaping. The school has close links with the community it serves, often becoming involved in local charity work. The school values the individuality of its young people and recognise their unique needs and aspirations. It aims to help every student in achieving the highest educational standards.
