Background:
Park View is a dual site community school. Years 7 and 8 are based about one and a half miles from the main school, which occupies the premises of the former grammar school in the centre of Chester-le-Street, between Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne. Park View has a reputation for high expectations and achievement. It is over-subscribed and a significant proportion of pupils come from outside the school's natural catchment area. Extensive facilities on both sites include a theatre, a library resource centre, sports hall, two gyms, an all-weather pitch and floodlit astroturf area. The sixth form shares a purpose-built block with the community association. Music and sports in general are outstanding features and an extensive range of extra-curricular activities is offered. All pupils follow two foreign language courses from Year 8. Latin is an option, with French and German both available from Year 7. The school aims to provide a well-disciplined and caring atmosphere where it values equality of opportunity and mutual esteem.
