Background:

The school is housed in a main block which was built in 1921 and is 'typical of the era', together with a new two-room demountable. Red Rose's chess team reached the national schools' semi-finals in 1999 in Wales, and its netball and football teams are also 'very successful'. The school has 'good' links with the local church, hospital and library where it sings at Christmas. Fund-raising activities include Yellow Brick Road, Bible Lands and Comic Relief charities. The school has recently signed up to the P.D.A project ' hand held computers. The project is being monitored closely by DFEE. Year 2 children are presently working on this project. Excellent links with primary schools and secondary schools within the area. The aims of Red Rose Primary School to help all individuals to; understand the world in which they live; understand the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations; be adaptable to a changing environment and to learn from it; develop awareness of, and tolerance towards other cultures, races, religions and ways of life; develop awareness of self and sensitivity and aspirations; build self-confidence, self-esteem and self discipline.
