Background:
Situated on the north-eastern side of Sedgefield, this 'friendly and warm' school was opened in 1972. It is located in a single-storey, semi-open plan building on the same site as a community college. There are 'very strong' community links with the church, old peoples' homes and day-care centres. Charities receiving particular support from the pupils include the NSPCC and Guide Dogs for the Blind. There is a 'strong tradition' of music, with over 50 children involved in choir, recorder, guitar and orchestral groups. Teams represent the school in local football, netball and athletic competitions. Children at Key Stage 2 have opportunities to attend residential field visits. 'Close co-operation' with parents is considered 'vital'.
