Background:
Originally founded in the centre of Durham in 1898, the school moved to its current building just over a mile from the city in 1996. Facilities include a large sports-field and two large playground areas. Extra-curricular sporting activies include seven-a-side and five-a-side football, netball, tennis and gymnastics, and pupils take part in county events in rugby, athletics and cross-country. The school choir is involved in city events for the mayor, raising money for St Cuthbert's Care, Christmas celebrations and summer productions. Partnerships between parents, the school and the community are encouraged. Churchgoers are invited into school after services, retired engineers are involved with upper juniors in design technology, students from four comprehensive schools come to work with the children and parents are welcome as helpers on a weekly basis. The school is over-subscribed, receiving 35 applications for 30 available places.
