Background:
Founded in 1930, The Grove has a 'long tradition' of serving the community. It draws children from a variety of backgrounds in an area of high unemployment, and the building is 'partially surrounded by security fencing, due to vandalism in the area'. Facilities include a hall, kitchen, kiln room and community room, and the school offers a curriculum which is 'permeated with a high profile of personal and social elements' to increase the self-esteem of the pupils. It achieved the Healthy School Award in 1998 and welcomes parents into the school, some of whom help to deliver the curriculum. The Grove is involved in projects with Sweden, Germany, and Poland and children exchange projects termly. 'While educating our children it is our aim to encourage the moral, spiritual, social and physical development of each child in our care'.
