Background:
The school opened in Spetember 1970 and is housed in a single-storey building. Two double mobile classrooms were added in 1985 to cope with increased numbers. The school is committed to providing 'a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum based on the national curriculum, while maintaining a caring Catholic community where prayer, worship and liturgy are an integral part of life'. The school runs extra-curricular activities during lunch times, after school, and during half-term. These include mixed football, netball and cross-country. The school is proud of its sporting successes. Pupils are regular cross-country champions including at the Nunthorpe Invitation, which draws children from a wide area within the old county of Cleveland; frequent Thornaby town champions at local swimming championships. Many ex-pupils represent the county and country at a wide range of sports including football, swimming, gymnastics and archery. The school encourages pupils to raise money for a wide variety of charities, including an orphanage in Romania, and fundraising events include a televised Christmas record.
