Background:
St Patrick's is a small, voluntary aided, co-educational secondary school for the Roman Catholic children of Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick. It is set in an urban area of south Stockton-on-Tees. The original building was built in 1964 with 'considerable' extensions added in 1973, and facilities include 'large' playing fields The school is proud of its 'excellent' sporting facilities and sporting traditions. Outdoor education includes canoeing, climbing (the school has it's own climbing wall), orienteering and fell walking, and many pupils take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The school aims to have a 'caring Christian community where each individual pupil is treated with dignity and respect'. At the same time the school endeavours to 'maximise the potential of all the students'.
